Permission to keep a pet

Please complete the form below if you would like to keep a pet. We will respond to you within five working days.

We will give permission to keep a pet if the property is suitable, you are looking after your home and you are able to take on the responsibilities of looking after a pet.

We will also take into consideration whether your tenancy has been breached in any way, for instance, rent arrears, anti-social behaviour or not looking after your property.

Pets you don't need permission for

You don't need permission to keep a reasonable number of caged house birds and small caged animals like hamsters and rabbits. However, breeding is not permitted.

Animals we will not give permission for

We do not allow tenants to keep wild animals, livestock or farm animals (except as set out in our Pets Policy), endangered species or any dogs identified in the Dangerous Dogs act 1992, or any subsequent legislation.

In addition, animals registered under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, which includes venemous snakes, certain types of spider and various breeds of monkey, are not permitted in West Kent properties.

West Kent will also have regard to any other legislation that may be applicable to the keeping of any pet before granting permission.

Declaration

Declaration

I agree that by submitting this application to keep a cat/dog I am declaring that • I will be legally responsible for the cat/dog at all times. • I will not make any alterations to the property to accommodate my pet without having permission from West Kent. • I have read the Pets Policy and the conditions of my tenancy agreement and will make sure I comply at all times. • I understand that I have responsibility for all pets that live at the property (even if I am not the primary carer) and that a separate application must be submitted for each pet. • I understand that if I breach the Pets Policy and/or the conditions of my tenancy agreement that permission to have the pet may be withdrawn in addition to any other enforcement action that West Kent may take. • If I am unable to continue to care for my cat/dog, due to a change in my situation, I agree to rehome the cat/dog. If I am unable to arrange this myself, I agree that West Kent can contact a suitable animal welfare organisation to ensure appropriate rehoming arrangements are made. • I understand that pets are not allowed in communal gardens at any time and that when in any internal communal area must be on a lead. • I understand that in addition to this form, I must submit a New pet details form once I have chosen my pet.
