Tombola stall, bouncy castle, an ice cream van and much more, White Oak Court knows how to put on an event!

On Friday 21 July, White Oak Court residents, their friends and families, and the local community came along to a summer fete, raising much-needed money for the scheme’s resident social fund.

Elli- Tora, Scheme Assistant at White Oak Court said: “ The summer fete had such a positive response from all  our residents that came along. They were involved with the planning and running of a huge project right from the start, and gained social interaction with the wider community, which is so important. By holding events like these in our extra care schemes it allows our residents to still live life independently, and have the chance to connect with the public rather than being isolated within their flats. Here at White Oak Court, we believe that it is our sole purpose to let our residents fulfil a happy and interactive life, which is why we have a social committee run exclusively by a selection of residents here.”

The social committee raises money throughout the year to put on events such as singers, pantomimes and entertainers. All money raised from the summer fete has been put into our the social fund, and they are already planning some exciting events, including an Elvis impersonator and a fish & chip night.

Ellie-Tora continued: “Seeing our residents being able to achieve their dreams and watch their ideas come to life is the most rewarding part of my job. The summer fete has really helped a lot of our residents overcome the feeling of loneliness and isolation.”

The tombola proved to be the biggest hit of the day, seeing many people returning more than once to try their luck at winning a great prize!

One happy resident on the White Oak Court resident’s association commented: “We made a lot of money on the Tombola. I didn’t manage to make it to all the stalls, but it was very lively with lots of things going on.”
