At West Kent we are passionate about providing career development and training opportunities through our employment and training team. We recently hosted a construction careers insight event in Swanley, drawing in almost 50 people, including job seekers and students from Orchards Academy, to speak with several employers.

The event that took place in late July highlighted the diverse career paths available within the construction industry and provided attendees guidance on applying for apprenticeships and jobs.

Employers who kindly attended were, West Kent suppliers: AD Group, Brenwards, Cablesheer, Nurture, and Wealdens. They were joined by BAM Construction, Baily Garner, and staff from the local job centre.

Feedback was positive, with attendees appreciating the format and the chance to speak directly with employers without having to search online.

One resident commented, "This event was quite helpful! The structure allowed me to network with employers and discuss opportunities that interest me. It was positive to be able to discuss and give contact information about vacancies and opportunities as it makes the process more personal and productive than a traditional jobs fair. At some job fairs, certain employers may refer you to apply online and you end up being ignored, whereas at this event, you were able to present yourself and employers stated they would contact you to discuss further upon review.”

West Kent marks Transgender Awareness Week

This Transgender Awareness Week, we took a step toward in building inclusive communities by hosting a lunch and learn session. Led by Lio, a West Kent resident and member of the transgender community, the session was an eye-opening opportunity to explore the importance of trans-inclusion in our everyday lives.
