This financial year (April 2024 to March 2025), there are 53 weeks, not 52. This happens every five or six years. This means there is an extra week of rent charged for your home.

But, the DWP, which manages Universal Credit, does not recognise a 53-week rent year. It will calculate your rent monthly based on a 52-week year.

This means that Universal Credit will not cover one week of rent. You must ensure that this extra week is paid for by Monday, 31 March 2025.

We know paying this might be a worry for you. If you are concerned about covering the cost, please talk to us as soon as possible. If it’s more affordable, you can pay a little extra each month rather than paying the full amount all at once.

West Kent progresses the development of the new Woodland Place community, set to provide 106 new homes

Woodland Place is the newly branded scheme in Allington, Maidstone, and sits on the land known as Castor Park. The new development is currently in construction and is set to provide over 100 new homes for with a mix of social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership tenures.
