We're delighted to share that Abacus Furniture Project was recently announced the runner up in the Sustainability in Business category at the Sevenoaks Business Awards.

The Sevenoaks Business Awards recognise the best businesses working within Sevenoaks town. The awards were opened by Laura Trott MP, with nominees enjoying guest speaker Lennox Cato DL, (from Antiques Roadshow ), and Sevenoaks magician, Bob Pound.

The Sustainability in Business category, sponsoredAbacus - business awards by the Sevenoaks Chamber of Commerce, is open to those who can 'demonstrate a track record of sustainable business practices or a recent major sustainability change in the way they operate'.

Abacus collects unwanted, pre-used furniture from households, re-directing it from landfill and selling for a low cost to people in need. The money raised is reinvested back into the projects to cover costs and to fund other community projects.

Its aim is to help everyone to furnish their homes without incurring debt.

Over the last four years, Abacus has diverted 186,000 kg of waste from landfill, and prevented 16,000 litres of paint from going to waste.

Dawn Grant, Employability and Enterprise Manager said: “We’re delighted to have been recognised for our work in sustainability, as it’s the foundation and drive for our project and its work. We’re proud of how positively Abacus contributes not only to keeping furniture out of landfill and protecting our environment, but also in supporting those most in need in Sevenoaks to furnish and decorate their homes without getting into debt.”
