This accessibility statement applies to our website, www.westkent.org  

This website is run by the communications and marketing team at West Kent Housing Association. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website and regularly review its content and functionality to improve user experience. For example, that means you should be able to: 

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings 
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen 
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons. 

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations 

  • The colour of some text does not sufficiently contrast with its background colour. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3. (Contrast). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by May 2025. 
  • Explicit field labels or an associated “for” attributes connected to the input field are not used correctly in the search bar or the Google translate plugin feedback form. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by May 2025. 
  • Programmatic field purposes, such as pre-filled autocomplete attributes are not used in any of our website forms. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.5 (Identify Input Purpose). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by January 2025. 
  • The search form in the navigation has been added to a list without being wrapped in <li>. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by May 2025. 
  • Our website forms do not contain field sets containing legends to describe its contents. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by January 2025.
  • There are several pages where the headings aren’t in hierarchical or logical order. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by May 2025. 
  • Form border controls do not appear sufficiently distinct from their surroundings. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by January 2025.
  • The label within the ‘Location’ fragment doesn’t have a valid ‘for’ attribute. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by January 2025.
  • When tabbing to the search icon and pressing enter, users have to tab back twice to get to the search input. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by January 2025.
  • At 300 - 400% zoom, the main menu is hidden by the quick links menu. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow). We are currently working with our website developer and plan to correct this issue by January 2025. 

PDFs and other documents 

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.  

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards. 

Live video 

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

This statement was prepared on 4 October 2024. It was last reviewed on 11 November 2024. 

This website was last tested on 29 August 2024 against the WCAG 2.2A A standard. 

The test was carried out by Verse One. The most viewed pages were tested using automated testing tools by our website team. A further audit of the website was carried out to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.
