West Kent is a high performing and growing community-based housing association, providing much needed affordable homes and services to people living in towns and villages throughout Kent. Our vision is to deliver places to live and space to grow for our current and future residents.
The last few years has brought much change for us all and this in turn is changing what we want from a home and what we value in our communities. We want our customers to be proud of their home and the communities they live in. Working collaboratively with our residents in the design and improvement of our services, will be vital to our continuing success. We also want to increase the number and range of homes available for our current and future residents, from our current base of 8,500 managed homes, by 150 homes a year.
The current economic climate is arguably one of the most challenging it has been, at a time when expectations and regulatory requirements regarding the standard of homes, building safety and meeting net zero are increasing. West Kent has been in business for over 35 years as an independent housing provider and we are proud of the organisation we have become; from our G1/V2 regulatory ratings to our strong reputation amongst residents, partners and other stakeholders. West Kent has some important strategic decisions ahead.
There is now an opportunity for an exceptional professional to join our board. We are seeking someone to help ensure that we successfully deliver our asset management strategy and related investment, ensure we have a sensible approach to sustainability and are meeting the highest standards of landlord health and safety and building safety compliance.
You will be a crucial member of our board and committees, providing strategic oversight. Specifically, we are looking for someone with a strategic asset management leadership track record across an extensive property portfolio and/or specialist knowledge and experience in sustainability and asset decarbonisation. Social housing experience is not essential, although an understanding of the social housing sector and regulation is needed. Previous non-executive or committee experience is desirable but not essential.
You will be able to scrutinise, challenge and strategically advise. As well as professional knowledge and expertise, you will have a desire to make a difference to people's lives.
We are committed to retaining a diverse board, reflective of the communities we serve and comprising people who bring a broad mix of different skills and perspectives. We are keen to attract applicants from backgrounds of the broadest possible range and look forward to welcoming new colleagues who will enjoy the work we do and who will bring both support and constructive challenge to our discussions and decision making.
The role will require an average of two days per month. Most board meetings will take place at our head office in Sevenoaks.
If you share our vision and ambitions and are inspired to serve our residents, customers, and our local communities, then we would welcome hearing from you.
